‘Vyooham’ To Be Released On A Grand Scale On November 10

‘Vyooham’, starring Ajmal Amir in the role of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, will hit the screens on November 10. Sensational director Ram Gopal Varma today unveiled the film’s trailer at an event hosted by producer Dasari Kiran Kumar at a star hotel in Hyderabad.

Speaking on the occasion, RGV said that the film begins with the demise of YSR and ends with Jagan becoming the CM of Andhra Pradesh. The second part, titled ‘Shapadham’, will be about what happens during Jagan’s reign in Andhra Pradesh over a period of five years.

RGV further said, “This film is reality as it is. There is no ‘vyooham’ behind this project. I have always been inspired by real events, incidents and personalities in making movies. The basic idea of ‘Vyooham’ was born when YSR garu passed away. His demise was untimely and unexpected and extremely shocking. When such a thing happens, agendas of different individuals come to the fore. That’s par for the course in politics. ‘Vyooham’ is a political thriller. This film is the result of my research. Every public event or development has a behind-the-scenes saga. That story is what is unknown to the public. I have done ‘Vyooham’ with the aiming of showing that.”

RGV described himself as a non-controversial person whose name is dragged into controversial issues by the media. “I have never met with CBN garu in real life. I have no personal enmity with him. I don’t follow politics. That said, I have a certain impression about prominent personalities. I have my own set of impressions about Jagan garu and CBN garu. And those impressions are what you are going to see in ‘Vyooham’,” RGV said.

RGV philosophically said that “truth” changes from person to person. “Different media houses have their own versions of the truth. We receive information constantly and that info updates our understanding and impressions about our version of the truth,” RGV pondered. “People are not monolithic. They are fluid and they have a varied set of experiences and sensibilities. Attenborough made ‘Gandhi’ depending on what was documented. My films are an extension of my impressions about different persons,” he said.

“Whether it is fiction or nonfiction, what material contributes to the drama is what matters. In the case of ‘Vyooham’, I could make a thriller with the premise of what happens when a mass leader passes away suddenly. Truth can be palatable or unpalatable to you. It all depends on your beliefs. ‘Vyooham’ is about what I believe is the truth. If someone doesn’t like it, they are free to make their own version of the truth. When I made ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’ and ‘Sarkar’, I never took anybody’s consent or prior permission. ‘Vyooham’ has been made without anybody’s permission. But I met some people concerned with the subject matter,” Varma said.

“I am not well-versed with YSRCP and TDP. I am not political. My impressions about CBN garu have been shaped by the Viceroy Hotel incident. My impressions about Jagan garu have been shaped by the Odarpu Yatra. That’s all there is to it,” RGV said.

During a long QnA session with film journalists, RGV indicated that he carved Jagan’s character in ‘Vyooham’ based on his understanding of the CM’s speeches, etc. Varma justified what has been shown in the trailer. “This film has been made based on my interpretation of what I have gathered from different individuals. ‘Vyooham’ is a realistic film that doesn’t project anybody in a positive or a negative light,” the filmmaker said. He refused to reveal what is Megastar Chiranjeevi up to in the film. “At that time (2009), Chiranjeevi garu was still in politics,” he said.

Producer Dasari Kiran Kumar said that Jagan underwent a lot of hardships despite being the son of a Chief Minister. “No other son of any CM has gone through such hardships. I felt a film like ‘Vyooham’ must be made to bring out all that. This is not a biopic and it doesn’t tell Jagan garu’s story right from his childhood. Without taking care of the poor’s basic essentials, development would be meaningless. Jagan garu is balancing both welfare and development,” the producer said, adding that the November 10th release is going to be huge.

“We want everyone to watch this movie. The pre-release event will be a huge one as well. About five lakh people are expected to be there for the event on November 5,” the producer said.
