The Telugu film industry is looking to “Devara,” “Pushpa 2,” and “Game Changer” to restore its fortunes

Tollywood’s trade has faced a challenging year so far. Except for “Hanu-Man” and “Kalki 2898 AD” starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, most releases have failed to please distributors. Films like Mahesh Babu’s “Guntur Kaaram,” Ram’s “Double iSmart,” Ravi Teja’s “Mr. Bachchan,” and “Eagle” have all faced losses. While movies like “Tillu Square,” “Om Bheem Bush,” “Committee Kurrollu,” “Aay,” “Saripodhaa Sanivaaram,” and “Mathu Vadalara 2” made some impact at the box office, the industry is still in search of a major hit to reignite enthusiasm.

In this context, the upcoming big releases such as “Devara: Part 1,” “Pushpa The Rule,” and “Game Changer” are expected to be pivotal. “Devara,” featuring NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor, is set for a September 27 release. With nearly Rs 200 crores invested and high anticipation following NTR’s success in “RRR,” the film is expected to make a significant impact.

Similarly, “Pushpa The Rule,” the highly anticipated sequel to the successful “Pushpa: The Rise,” will release globally on December 6. Directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, the film is anticipated to replicate the massive success of its predecessor, with pre-release deals reportedly securing close to Rs 1,000 crores.

Lastly, all attention is on “Game Changer,” Ram Charan and Shankar’s ambitious political drama. With Ram Charan’s popularity soaring post-“RRR” and Kiara Advani joining the cast, the film has generated considerable buzz. Slated for a Christmas release, it will be the final major Tollywood release of 2024.
