Sandalwood star Srimuralii and rising actress Rukmini Vasanth team up in Bagheera, a superhero film penned by renowned director Prashanth Neel. Directed by Dr. Suri, this big-budget action drama is produced by KGF and Salaar fame Vijay Kiragandur. Released worldwide as a Diwali treat, let’s dive into the review to see how Bagheera fares.
Storyline:
Bagheera follows the journey of Vedanth Prabhakar (Srimuralii), who dreams of becoming a superhero since childhood. Instead, due to his mother’s influence, he takes up a career as a determined police officer, significantly reducing crime in Mangalore. But an unexpected turn in Vedanth’s life changes everything. What pushes this dedicated cop towards corruption? How does he transform into Bagheera, and what leads him to confront Rana (Garuda Ram), a ruthless organ trafficker? The answers unfold in Bagheera.
Highlights:
Bagheera packs solid action sequences designed to captivate mass audiences, with grandeur that has become a staple of Kannada cinema. Srimuralii stands out in his role as a tough cop, lending credibility with his robust performance and impressive physicality. His portrayal of Vedanth brings authenticity to both his sincere cop and eventual superhero persona.
Rukmini Vasanth shines with another memorable performance, while seasoned actors like Achyuth Kumar and Prakash Raj add weight to the cast. Garuda Ram delivers a strong performance as the villain Rana, with impactful scenes that establish his fierce character effectively.
Areas Of Improvement:
Though written by Prashanth Neel, the storyline is fairly familiar, following the journey of a boy who dreams of being a superhero and grows up to become a formidable cop. This routine plot leaves little room for novelty, and several sequences feel reminiscent of traditional “hero-centric” cinema. While the movie’s runtime isn’t extensive, it occasionally feels drawn out, with repetitive elements in both halves.
Technical Aspects:
The film benefits from excellent production values, showcasing a high-standard superhero flick. B. Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score amplifies the impact of many scenes, while his songs add an extra layer to the film’s appeal. Visually, the film, though darker in its trailers, looks well-suited for the big screen. The editing is competent, and the Telugu dubbing is effectively done.
Director Suri succeeds in delivering a commendable output. While the storyline itself lacks novelty, he manages to craft engaging hero moments and action sequences that will resonate with the mass audience.
Conclusion:
Bagheera presents a well-staged superhero drama high on action and mass appeal, though it leans on a familiar storyline. With strong performances, especially by Srimuralii, and high production quality, Bagheera makes for a decent choice for this festive weekend.
