Avatar 2 review : Visual spectacular

Avatar: Way of The Water released in theaters worldwide today amidst sky high expectations. The film is a live action epic and it is mounted on an unprecedented scale. Here’s the review of the James Cameron directorial.

Story: Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.

Analysis:

Right form the outset, Avatar: Way of Water is a visual marvel of the highest order. It has graphic imagery that were never seen on the big screens. The film marks the coming together of outrageously good CGI and unprecedented scale visual presentation.

The magical realism of the characters and the atmospherics were unheard of. The larger than life visuals are mind bogglingly good to say the least. The soundtrack and the visual presentation are the standouts.

The film mostly runs on the otherworldly visuals and often, the pace of the narrative goes for a toss. There is very little to offer on the story front and that could be one of the main drawbacks of the larger than life action epic.

The final 40 minutes or so are truly ecstatic and they pack a solid punch. The narrative dips beyond the threshold at times but the visual brilliance makes up for it.

James Cameron the director has outweighed Cameron the storyteller and the shortcomings are covered through the technical finesse that the film has in abundance.

Verdict: Avatar 2 is a visual masterpiece that relies entirely on the staggeringly good visual presentation rather than the story or the narrative. It needs to be experienced on the big screens solely for its technical brilliance.
