A major release is planned for ‘Kanguva’ in the Hindi-speaking regions

There is considerable uncertainty surrounding the release of Suriya’s film Kanguva. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the movie explores the theme of past lives. The production team invested heavily in this pan-Indian project and is optimistic that Kanguva could become Kollywood’s first film to gross 1000 crores. As we’ve previously noted, Tamil films have struggled to make an impact in Hindi-speaking regions, often failing to meet the Multiplex Association of India’s 8-week OTT window rule.

Films like Jailer, Leo, and Vikram arrived on OTT platforms within a month of their release, which led to their Hindi versions not being available in major national chains. However, Kanguva will avoid this problem thanks to a strategic agreement with Amazon Prime Video. Under this deal, the Hindi version will be available on digital platforms only after an eight-week period, while other language versions will be on Prime four weeks after their theatrical release.

Producer Dhananjeyan recently revealed that Kanguva‘s Hindi version will be released on an extensive 3000 screens across the Hindi-speaking belt. This will include Telugu and Tamil versions as well, but the Hindi release will be significantly larger. Dhananjeyan confirmed that the movie will hit theaters within two months and will indeed be released in 2024.
