Learning from the Best: Raghunandan NallanChakravarthula’s Path to Mastery

Raghunandan NallanChakravarthula’s musical journey has been deeply influenced by the guidance of several renowned figures in classical music. His dedication to perfecting his craft and his respect for tradition led him to learn from some of India’s most respected artists, shaping his skills and expanding his knowledge.

One of his key mentors was Padma Shri Yella Venkateshwara Rao, a famous Mridangam master. Under his guidance, Raghunandan built a solid understanding of the instrument’s rhythm and intricate hand techniques. He also received valuable mentorship from Padma Bhushan Vempati China Satyam, a master of Nattuvangam, which helped him refine his skills in this art form.

In addition to these mentors, Padma Shri K.J. Sarasa played an important role in deepening Raghunandan’s understanding of the Tala system, essential for classical dance. He also trained under Padma Bhushan Swapnasundari, who provided advanced insights into classical arts.
